【摘要】:Thispracticecoverstheevaluationoftheperformanceofpersonalsamplersofnon-fibrousrespirableaerosol.Thesamplersareassessedrelativetoaspecificrespirablesamplingconvention.Theconventionisoneofseveralthatidentifyspecificparticlesizefractionsforassessinghealtheffectsofairborneparticles.Whenahealtheffectsassessmenthasbeenbasedonaspecificconventionitisappropriatetousethatsameconventionforsettingpermissibleexposurelimitsintheworkplaceandambientenvironmentandformonitoringcompliance.Theconventions,whichdefineinhalable,thoracic,andrespirableaerosolsamplerideals,havenowbeenadoptedbytheInternationalStandardsOrganization(TechnicalReportISOTR7708),theComitEuropendeNormalisation(CENStandardEN481),andtheAmericanConferenceofGovernmentalIndustrialHygienists(ACGIH,Ref(1)),developed(2)inpartfromhealth-effectsstudiesreviewedinRef(3)andinpartasacompromisebetweendefinitionsproposedinRefs(3,4).ThispracticeiscomplimentarytoTestMethodD4532,whichspecifiesaparticularinstrument,the10-mmcyclone.Thesamplerevaluationprocedurespresentedinthispracticehavebeenappliedinthetestingofthe10-mmcycloneaswellastheHiggins-Dewellcyclone.Detailsontheevaluationhavebeenrecentlypublished(5-7)andcanbeincorporatedintorevisionsofTestMethodD4532.Acentralaimofthispracticeistoprovideinformationrequiredforcharacterizingtheuncertaintyofconcentrationestimatesfromsamplestakenbycandidatesamplers.Forthispurpose,samplingaccuracydatafromtheperformancetestsgivenherecanbecombinedwithinformationastoanalyticalandsamplingpumpuncertaintyobtainedexternally.ThepracticeappliesprinciplesofISOGUM,expandedtocoversituationscommoninoccupationalhygienemeasurement,wherethemeasurandvariesmarkedlyinbothtimeandspace.Ageneralapproach(8)fordealingwiththissituationrelatestothetheoryoftoleranceintervalsandmaybesummarizedasfollows:Sampling/analyticalmethodsundergoextensiveevaluationsandaresubsequentlyappliedwithoutre-evaluationateachmeasurement,whiletakingprecautions(forexample,throughaqualityassuranceprogram)thatthemethodremainsstable.Measurementuncertaintyisthencharacterizedbyspecifyingtheevaluationconfidence(forexample,95%)thatconfidenceintervalsdeterminedbymeasurementsbracketmeasurandvaluesatbetterthanagivenrate(forexample,95%).Moreover,thesystematicdifferencebetweencandidateandidealizedaerosolsamplerscanbeexpressedasarelativebias,whichhasproventobeausefulconceptandisincludedinthespecificationofaccuracy(3.2.3-3.2.10).UnitsoftheInternationalSystemofUnits(SI)areusedthroughoutthispracticeandshouldberegardedasstandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
